DRAW NEAR TO GOD

This blog site began with the wonderful experience of God making Himself real to me. From the early age of fourteen, my life has been one of knowing that the Creator of the universe loves me. I’m secure in His cupped hand. I’ve heard men, that I respect, say God doesn’t care about your comfort. The God I know does. Search for the truth.

If you’re curious about the real God, and not the one so many create for themselves, read the Bible. He’s no different today than He was then. Learn of His ways with the people He called to Himself. For example, Moses, Abraham, Jacob who later became Israel and Jacob’s beloved son Joseph are a good start. God was so good to them, but He let them suffer. To be honest, I’m amazed by the Old Testament. And yes, I believe all of it.

The truth is that God is much like an earthly parent, except He’s perfect. He provides, He teaches, He corrects, He protects, and He loves unconditionally. He does all this when you accept Jesus as your Savior. I thank Him often for His grace. I tell Him that I love Him. I also ask for things. If it isn’t good for me, He says no, just like a parent.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). Tell God about the things on your heart. Talk to Him, but be respectful. He’s holy.

The above Scripture plainly says we’re not to worry about anything. That’s a difficult one for me. I fail that often, when tribulations come. Sometimes, I think through the problem before hitting my knees. I may wonder why God has allowed it, or if I’m being tested. Most of the time I rush to the Lord as if He’ll be as surprised about it as I am.

The older I get, the more I realize I don’t need to be afraid when things happen. But, I’m human. Dread or fear is the first thing I feel. When my humanness is confident that God understands what’s happening, I calm down. He’s patient with me. He understands my need to talk it out. This is where His will and my faith enter the picture. I dread trouble, but the Lord is my security as surely as He was King David’s. His Psalms comfort me.

If God allows the anguish to continue, after I’ve cried out to Him, I KNOW He has a reason. Life has taught me, that He is faithful. He has NEVER failed me. However, He has allowed painful journeys up some really steep mountains. Mountain-moving faith waited for me on those summits. I praise and thank Him for the work He does in my life.

I’ve memorized Romans 8:28. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called to His purpose. I may never, ever understand the reason in my lifetime, but I’ve read the book of Job. EVERY, single thing He has allowed into my life was for good. I know this, but my human heart has trouble counting it as all joy. You’ll find that in James 1:2-3. God uses the trials in life for our benefit.

I always encourage people to memorize Scripture that comforts them, because that practice has made a world of difference in my life. I praise the Holy Spirit for bringing verses to mind, as needed. When I realize that He’s reminding me, or just assuring me, I feel such awe, and relief. God is drawing near to me. He sincerely cares for us.

Sometimes, I feel shame with that relief, because I hear, O yea of little faith, or why did you doubt. This happened a few days ago over a trivial matter that nagged at me. Proof once again that He cares about what I care about. There are times of doubt, but they flee when He reprimands me. I’m embarrassed to admit that I ever doubt, because God has graciously given me great faith. He repeatedly tests that faith, too.

If only people would study their Bibles daily, and grow in His grace. I encourage you to take Him at His Word. Trusting and believing Him will give you such joy and peace. It also blesses Him. Knowing that God is who He says He is, and that I belong to Jesus gives me immense comfort. Dear Reader, seek that assurance with all of your heart.

All through the Old Testament the LORD assured His people that He was with them. They were safe in His hands. They just needed to trust Him and to stay close to Him. In the New Testament He assures His people in Hebrews 13:5, that He will never leave them or forsake them. The eighth chapter of Romans starts and ends with the assurance that if we belong to Jesus, NOTHING is going to separate us from God.

You may already know Romans 8:38-39, but I’m going to include these verses simply because I treasure them. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  How amazing is that?

All Scripture on my blog is from the KJV, but I want to share the 1996 NLT of Romans 8:38-39. I love the way they translated these verses. The latest translation is different, for some reason, from the 1996. I’ve stated before that the King James is my favorite Bible. My second is the New American Standard, but I enjoy reading others. Some, not so much. Be careful when choosing a Bible. Now for that 1996 translation.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away. Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus wanted His disciples to trust Him. He was disappointed by their fear that stormy night on the sea, and by their lack of faith. You’ll find that event in Matthew 14:22-33. I, too, would have disappointed Him that night. Being tossed around by a “contrary wind” in the dark sounds horrible. I’m impulsive like Peter, so I admire him, but I would’ve stayed in the boat. I would’ve kept my eyes on Jesus, and my mouth shut.

Faith is very important to the Lord. He rebuked His disciples for their doubts several times. Hebrews 11:6, But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Truth! I quickly seek Him in tribulations, but I also seek Him daily as part of my day-to-day existence. God is one of the main characters in my life. He drives the plot.

Long ago, I discovered that my holy Father is interested in EVERYTHING that I do. He cares about trivial things like replacing a broken spoon rest on the stove. You can read about that in my blog, GOD CARES. I pinned a picture of the pig in Charlotte’s Web over my desk and within days Charlotte appeared over the dining room window. She fascinated us until she died of old age. That blog is GOD’S HANDIWORK.

Finding lost items like my keys, capturing amazing pictures on my phone, drawing my eyes to share the secret things that I do not notice, are all things I have experienced with my heavenly Father. God cares about the things that interest believers. His parental love is amazing. LOOK FOR GOD’S FINGERPRINT is a blog about a coupon I wanted.

God has given my family MANY miracles, but the world as a whole was clueless. Many of these “miracles” are as simple as breaking a fever or renewing my strength, but just recently He stunned me. My sister died on her living room floor and survived. I wrote about that in GOD PRODUCES THE FRUIT. He is so good to those who trust Him.

Dear Readers search for the love of your life in Scripture. He has no favorites, but the favor of God is a shield to the righteous. It provides supernatural blessings and protection in your everyday life. He enhances your human efforts, but He leaves no doubt in your mind that He has helped you. He loves to surprise you with His presence.

If only you will listen to me. Nothing is more important in this world than seeking God. He wants a relationship with you. How awesome is that? Search for Him as if your life depended on it. He won’t disappoint you. He will profoundly amaze you. I have no words to describe the overpowering love I felt when He revealed Himself to me.

That revelation made all the difference in my life. Oh, I wish I could say I’d been a better person because of it, but I’m the same old me. The difference is in knowing that I’m not alone, that He loves me, that He will walk through this life with me, and that when I die, He will be there to take me home. God bless you, dear Reader.
