THE GOD I KNOW

A few weeks ago, I heard a delightful hymn by Elohim Songs, The God I Know. It begins with a verse of Scripture. “And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.” John 17:3

The words touched my soul. I hear it playing in my head. When I heard these lines, this isn’t just a story someone told…this is the God…my heart has come to know, I thought about my blog. I have endeavored to be a genuine witness, but it’s the Holy Spirit who makes God real to those searching for the truth.

If you’re curious about the God who make Himself known to me, open your Bible. May I suggest Luke? The Author knows when you’re seeking Him. It took the Holy Spirit about 2000 years to finish the Bible. He knows your heart, so be honest and respectful. The God I know…righteous and holy…the God I know…faithful and true. Words of wisdom sung so beautifully.

I’ve seen Him turn my tears into dancing…I’ve felt His arms when I fell down…I’ve heard Him whisper in my midnight…My child you’ll never be alone. This is what a relationship with God looks like. Scripture promises that He will never leave our side. It encourages us to trust Him, trust His will, and to be courageous. “Fear not!” He tells us so often.

He knows my name…He knows my story…every scar and every fear…and still He calls me His beloved…and draws me ever near. Truth! He knows everything about me. He’s the God who sees me, El Roi, but I also share my thoughts and heart with Him. Where hearts are healed…and Christ revealed…in everything He does.

When my world fell apart around me…when the darkness closed me in…He was there in ways I’d never known…my Savior and my closest friend. The dark night of the soul comes to us all. When God feels distant, rebuke it. Again, Scripture promises that He will never leave us. Reach for His Word. He will speak to you through it.

The lyrics I’ve mentioned are the ones that stood out for me. There are many more. I hope you’ll listen to this wonderful song and experience the joy I felt. This is not the God I’ve heard about…this is the God I’ve walked with…talked with…the God I truly know.

Dear Reader, if you came to my blog wondering about God, search for Him with all of your heart. He’s the greatest treasure this world has to offer. Knowing that my Creator is watching over me, that nothing can happen to me unless He allows it, is priceless. He will take me through it and build my faith. That gives me peace in the tribulations of life.

I know Him…I know Him…not just of Him…but I know Him…the God I know…the God I know…has made Himself known to me.

Elohim Songs has many more beautiful hymns, but this one is my favorite. It’s about ten minutes long on You Tube Videos.
