I was watching several butterflies on a patch of zinnias, when I noticed one with tattered wings. It fluttered from one beautiful flower to another searching for sweet, sugary nectar. Other than looking faded and worn, the wings were doing a great job of getting the Gulf Fritillary where it wanted to go.
Several verses of Scripture came to mind as I watched God’s creation. Isaiah 46:4 is one of my favorites. “Even to your old age, I will be the same, and even to your graying years I will bear you! I have done it, and I will carry you; and I will bear you and I will deliver you.”
Twice God said, “I will bear you.” He did not want us to miss it. I believe that means He will endure with us. He spoke those words to Isaiah thousands of years ago. Scripture promises us that He does not change. Believers can hold onto this ancient promise to His people and claim it today. God is faithful to those who love Him.
For several years, I have been asking the Lord for His strength to endure when I feel weary, inadequate, or timid. Lately, my prayer might be simply to get a meal on the table for my family and clean up afterwards. He has never failed to share His strength with me. I am a witness to the faithfulness of God.
Growing old as described in the twelfth chapter of Ecclesiastes is disheartening, but the promises of God greatly reassure me. The same can be true for you, dear Reader. Search your Bible for verses that you can hide in your heart and treasure. When you need to be reminded that God is present, aware, and attentive to those who love Him, the Holy Spirit will bring your treasured verses to mind.
Psalm 103 is a cherished worship psalm. I thought verse 14 went well with the fragile wings. I put it on the picture and posted it on my Instagram account, Faces of Wonder.
